Book Review: Darts by Benjamin Hewett

Darts is a small book for those who love traditional fantasy tropes in a fun new setting. The setting I am talking about for this book is a bar game of darts (hence the name).

We are introduced to a group of colorful characters who fit in the D&D types: a thief, a goblin, a mysterious magic type, a barmaid, and a warrior. With so many traditional elements, one would think that this story would be flat and boring, but in fact it is quite the opposite. I have read enough fantasy to know all the tropes well. This little boot keeps you guessing and was quite fun. Not only are you invested in who wins the dart match, but when a bar fight and bigger plot elements break in, you wonder who will survive the day.

I highly recommend this book for an enjoyable afternoon. At about 60 pages long, the ebook version is probably the best format, Still, the illustrations and typesetting of the print book won’t disappoint you. Overall, it is a good book for middle school and up. The characters are adults with adult conversation topics, but it is pretty clean as far as sex, violence, and cussing.
