I haven’t posted in a while because I have been working obsessively on my newest book. Fidelia is it’s working title, and it is a historical fantasy fiction novel that takes place in 1282 Sicily. Researching the high middle ages has been a lot of fun!
This novel deviates from my young adult series for something very different and a bit grown-up. This does not mean I am done with the Legends of Gryphendale Series. On the contrary, I have plans for the next book in the series once Fidelia is done. I just needed a little break.
Fidelia does not have a publishing date. Unlike the rest of my books, I am going to seek traditional publishing for this one. Why?
I have tried over and over again to get access to competitions, fairs, and markets that are only open to traditionally published authors. My hope is that this book will open those doors.
So, what am I doing in the picture above?
I am a member of HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), and I was trying out historical ways of fighting in a dress that requires tying the hem up (not shown). My membership in this group has been both educational and fun. I am learning to fight with the longsword, dussack, quarterstaff, and other historical weapons. I have also been able to get help with my research.
It hasn’t been all work, though. I have made many friends and enjoyed other people’s ideas and their antics. I plan to continue with this group for a long while.
Who knows? I may be starting a new series or just get more ideas for historical books.
